Schools Online and their partners launched the Ciber@prendiz
pilot project in Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru. Science teachers
and students from six schools will participate in real-time data
and online collaborative projects. The Skoll Community Foundation
is sponsoring the technology purchase, Internet connectivity, and
technical training for this project.

One Zambian school is added to the AIDS WEB program and receives

Our Lighthouse Project in Laos won the Stockholm Challenge Award.
In Macedonia, completed the installation of five

Schools Online staff meets with many country
coordinators and students from the various programs at the 8th annual
International iEARN Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

Completed the installation of seven ILCs in Argentina. Internet
Learning Centers have been installed in the provinces of Chaco,
Cordoba, Jujuy, Mendoza, Neuquen, Salta, and Santa Cruz.
In the Middle East/North Africa (MENA) program,
schools were selected and preparation began to install ILCs in Egypt,
Jordan and Lebanon.

The Technology Empowerment Network (TEN), directed by the Technology
Pioneers, a project of the World Economic Forum, selects Schools
Online to participate in their projects. Schools Online is "adopted"
by TEN and receives intense guidance and support for a full year.

21st Century Clubs open to allow French
speaking students in Senegal and
English speaking students in Kenya to participate in online collaboration

Schools Online announced
its initial goal for the South Asia Region (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan,
and Sri Lanka) to provide equipment and teacher training and technical
support to 100 schools in the region.

In Bulgaria, in partnership with Hewlett-Packard Bulgaria and the
Balkanski Foundation, Internet Learning Centers were installed in
thirteen schools. In addition, teacher professional development
workshops for forty teachers were held in Schools Online Academy
in Oryahovitza, which opened its doors in June of 2000.
August 2000
Along with our partners, completed the second teacher development
workshop for thirty teachers from the West Bank and Gaza. Began
discussions with the Ministry of Education in the Palestinian Authority
to increase the number of schools from 10 to 50 for the 2000-2001
school year.
July 2000
Global Education Model Schools (GEMS) Pilot, a partnership between
Schools Online and International Education and Resources Network
(iEARN), announced at the iEARN conference in Beijing. During the
pilot, Schools Online will provide computer equipment, Internet
access and technical support for collaborative projects among teachers
and students in 43 schools in seven countries.
In Japan, funding was provided for equipment
and connectivity for 50 additional schools. This brings our total
number of schools to 83.
260 computers shipped to Zimbabwe to supply
30 schools with Internet Learning Centers.
Debut of the Kids Video Collaboration Online
(KVCO) video documenting collaborative projects among students in
eight countries.

Multimedia Internet workstations shipped to 278 schools in the United
States. To date Schools Online has helped 5,695 schools in the U.S.

Launched Web-mentoring site to assist teachers
