LINC 2006-2007

The Linking Individuals, Knowledge and Culture Program (LINC) gives twenty young leaders from two countries (Bangladesh and the United States) the opportunity to view cultures, youth leadership, and environmental development from a global perspective through participation in a three-week international exchange and continued environmental service. Ten students from the Bay Area will be selected based on academic achievement, leadership, and interest in environmental science and community service to take part in an exciting three week exchange to Bangladesh. While grooming the next generation of active and caring leaders, the program offers participants the opportunity to develop and maintain personal linkages with youth from other countries and to familiarize them with an entirely different culture than their own.
All costs of the program and student exchange to Bangladesh are covered by Relief International – Schools Online.

In April, ten students will be accompanied by Relief International – Schools Online chaperones to Bangladesh where they, along with ten Bangladeshi students, will have the opportunity to work on community service projects, visit mangrove forests, attend an environmental science camp and live with host families.  Then in May, Bangladeshi students, will visit the United States and experience American culture.  This exchange aims to enhance American and Bangladeshi students’ understanding of issues they will face as future leaders, including ecology, environmental science, technology, youth leadership and community development.  After their three week trip, students’ commitment to the LINC Program continues as participants are required to develop their own environmental service project that they must work on for a period of 10 months.
